Tooth Whitening Gadgets And Products Loved By Celebs
Super white gnashers without splashing out on expensive dental treatments? We're so into it.
If you’re a fan of coffee and wine and basically all the other great things in the world, you’ll probably notice that over time your teeth can start to become stained and lose their usual pearly white shine.
We know we won’t be giving up these vices anytime soon (or like, ever), so instead we’ve begun to explore the shiny world of teeth whitening.
Home-based whitening kits have been blowing up all over Insta, with many celebs posing with weird moon-shaped mouth guards and scary blue lights, claiming that they’ve done wonders for their gnashers. Since not everyone has enough dollar to splash out on professional treatments, this is music to our ears.
Here’s 8 celeb-approved products and gadgets you can try for a smile that will light up the room. TA-DA!
Cocowhite Coconut Oil Sachets
Celeb fans: Bella Thorne, Vanessa Hudgens, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Louise Thompson, Ashley Benson, Charlotte Crosby, Lindsay Lohan
How does it work?: Cocowhite uses the unique formula of oil pulling, which is basically swishing coconut oil around your mouth to dissolve the bacteria which turns into plaque. All you have to do in squeeze it into your mouth, swish the liquid around for 5-15 minutes and spit it out. It sounds pretty gross, but each sachet has an added fresh, minty flavour so you don't feel like gagging every ten seconds. YOU GO (GLEN) COCO!
Hi Smile Teeth Whitening Gel
Celeb fans: Kylie Jenner, Megan McKenna
How does it work?: This teeth whitening gel is great for a pre-date touch up because it only takes 10 minutes to see results with the added LED light. The formula also has Sodium Bicarbonate in it which gives the gel a high PH level so it doesn’t cause enamel damage or tooth erosion. Apparently we'll achieve up to 8 shades whiter in only 6 applications and we're definitely up for a sparkly A-lister smile.
Diamond Whites Black Edition Charcoal Tooth Polish
Celeb fans: Ferne McCann, Marnie Simpson, Vicky Pattison, Pete Wicks
How does it work?: Popular with the TOWIE and Geordie Shore gang, the Black Edition range is made from 100% activated coconut shell charcoal. It also claims to strengthen gums, remove toxins from your mouth and absorb bacteria. All you have to do is dip your wet toothbrush into the powder, brush in circular motions and then rinse your teeth well afterwards. Beware, it can get pretty messy.
Express Smile Atlanta Teeth Whitening Kit
Celeb fans: Lea Michele, Amber Rose, Kim Kardashian, Ciara, Khloe Kardashian, Rob Kardashian, Audrina Patridge, Snooki, The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast
How does it work?: The kit comes with upper and lower trays which you can customise. You have to submerge each tray in boiling water before putting into your mouth and sucking out the air which then moulds each tray to your upper and lower teeth. Put the whitening gel into each tray and stick them into your mouth for 10 minutes, along with your LED light in between your lips.
In case you fancy a whitening touch-up on the go (because apparently that's a thing now), the mini-LED light is small enough to fit in your bag so you can use whenever you need it (like when you spot your crush, though don't try and do it when they're looking your way).
Mr Blanc Teeth Whitening Strips
Celeb fans: Ashley Tisdale, Audrina Patridge, Stephanie Pratt, Lucy Watson, Charlotte Crosby, Megan McKenna
How does it work?: The flexible, minty strips are layered with tooth whitening gel which works to remove stains beneath the surface enamel of your teeth. You just press them down along your teeth everyday for up to 30 minutes a day (preferably when you don’t have to talk to anyone!). Et voilà, you will supposedly have visibly whiter teeth in up to 14 days.
Megan McKenna even admits: "This stuff is my saviour when filming [Towie]. Cleans stains from veneers too". Good to know.
BrightWhite Smile Teeth Whitening Pen & Light
Celeb fans: Blac Chyna, Scott Disick
How does it work? If you fancy bringing out the natural white shade of your teeth in only 10 minutes, just rub the whitening gel on with the pen and stick the light between your lips. EASY PEASY.
Celeb fans: Gwyneth Paltrow, Shailene Woodley
How does it work?: This is something you can try immediately if you've got oil in your kitchen cupboard. Shailene Woodley confessed to being the ultimate fan of this more natural way of whitening: "I love a natural way to heal. You swish coconut or sesame oil in your mouth and spit it out. It’s amazing! It really makes your teeth whiter, because the plaque on your teeth is not water soluble, it’s fat-soluble. So the lipids have to dissolve in fats, which is why oil works in your mouth."
So there you have it, swish the oil around your mouth for 20 minutes and try not to be grossed out by what you spit out!
Celeb fans: Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta Jones
How does it work?: If you’re on a serious budget and have some baking soda lying around, this might be your go-to teeth whitener. Julia Roberts confessed in an interview: “I brush my teeth with baking soda. My grandfather would put a big heaping mound of it on his toothbrush. He had only one cavity in his entire life.”
Try mixing a quarter of a teaspoon of baking soda with water and apply to your teeth using a toothbrush. If you can’t stand the taste, do what Catherine Zeta Jones does and mix 1-3 pureed strawberries with a half tablespoon of baking soda followed by your regular toothpaste or simply opt for a toothpaste which has a small amount of baking soda in it already.
Obviously these don't excuse you from taking regular trips to the dentist and while these products claim to not damage tooth enamel, you should be weary of increased sensitivity. Chat with your dentist first if you're unsure about what’s best for you.
