Benedict Cumberbatch 'Set To Play Doctor Strange'
Brit star reportedly close to signing deal with Marvel Studios...
The British star of The Hobbit movies and TV's Sherlock is claimed to be close to inking a deal to play the 'Sorcerer Supreme' for Marvel Studios - a role that has been linked to a host of big names.
Movie news website The Wrap reports "multiple individuals familiar with the project" as confirming that the 38-year-old is in negotiations.
It said: "Scheduling conflicts nearly derailed the deal but Cumberbatch's reps at UTA and Conway van Gelder Grant were able to work out his schedule to allow him to do Doctor Strange and an upcoming play, as well as the next season of Sherlock."
The movie is being directed by Scott Derrickson and produced by Marvel big cheese Kevin Feige.
Joaquin Phoenix was previously the front-runner for the role, but apparently balked at the prospect of follow-up movies.
