See Benedict Cumberbatch Pretending To Be A Dragon
Motion-capture video from making of Hobbit movie released...
You'd be forgiven for thinking that landing a voice part in a major Hollywood movie would be a pretty sweet gig, probably just turning up for a day or two and reading your lines into a microphone between sips of coffee.
A new "B roll" video released on YouTube sees the 38-year-old star on his stomach atop a low plinth, wearing a grey motion-capture suit as he portrays JRR Tolkein's famous villain.
And after seeing him deliver a couple of lines in a menacing manner, the video cuts to director Peter Jackson discussing his performance.
"We were looking for an actor who was not just going to voice a dragon that, you know, would sound like we'd imagine a dragon would sound like," the filmmaker explained.
"We wanted someone who would do something that was original, that was unexpected, that would be a surprise to us."
The video has been released to promote the DVD release of The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug.
