Bestival Review: Friday

My Bloody Valentine, Jamie Liddell, Chromeo and The Breeders play a very muddy festival...

Bestival kicked off on Friday with torrential rain and ridiculous winds resulting in wet muddy conditions of Glasto-proportions.

The BBC Introducing stage- which was due to host Black Kids, Sam Sparro and Lykke LI- was not open as word got round that it was sinking in the crazy conditions.

Though fashion considerations were now secondary there were plenty of great acts playing the Isle Of Wight site to take our minds off the weather. The only way to start Bestival is with DJ Barry Peters and his dancers 'double penetration' who bang out Club Tropicana, Billie Jean and Don't Stop Me Now.

Much later we caught My Bloody Valentine headlining the main stage whilst in the Big Top The Breeders played classic indie anthem Cannonball.

After the Loose Cannons DJ'd Chromeo took to the stage with their 4 miunte funk-pop anthems never over staying their welcome. With lasers and hits like Bonafied Lovin', You're So Gangsta and Fancy Footwork they were one of the highlights of the day.

Jamie Liddell played on the main stage in the afternoon but was much better in the early hours of Saturday morning in the intimate Xbox tent. The indie world's favourite DJ Erol Alkan also packed out the sticky Bollywood tent.

The Big Top continued right through the night with thousands still enjoying the acts on stage. CSS brought the party and balloons with them. Slam banged out progressive house while the (underated) Dub Pistols had massive basslines and horns till 4am.

Artists have already started playing Day 2 of Bestival with Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip currently on the Main Stage. Amy Winehouse, Hot Chip and Aphex Twin will all play later tonight.
