Ebony Day: ‘I Cried During 1D's Movie…Twice!’

MTV Brand New for 2013 winner Ebony Day may have just released her first EP but when we caught up with the Bournemouth-based 20-year-old she admitted to still fan-girling over pop princes [uuid=4eb2cf7c-7260-4512-92fc-8ec6fc21f4d1]Justin Bieber[/uuid] and One Direction.
“I cried a couple of times in the One Direction film. It wasn’t just once. I cried when Zayn bought his own house. I cried when the mums were in the concert and they were getting a bit emotional,” said Ebony candidly. “But it was, like, happy tears - it was never sad tears.”
Which is good because after becoming the first unsigned act to ever win MTV’s Brand New talent search earlier this year, she has plenty to smile about. Not only has Ebony already played in Nashville and headlined her own gig in London, but she now counts artists such as The Vamps among her friends and Bieber himself among her followers.
Justin following her on Twitter was “the biggest shock,” she said. “When he followed me I was, like, a massive, massive fan. I’m still a fan now but at the time I was, like, a big fan-girl. I think I ran around screaming.”
Now that he is following her, would she ever Direct Message the Heartbreaker singer? “I would never DM Justin Bieber because I don’t want to be really embarrassing,” Ebony admitted. “I feel like if I was to DM him I would go a bit over the top so I’ll just leave it.”
Besides, it’s One Direction’s Niall she has her sights set on. “I do really like Niall,” said Ebony. “He is my favourite because, I think, he seems really friendly. I kind of just want to be his friend.”
