Ebony Day On Life After Winning MTV Brand New

Our winner reflects on the past 9 months as this year’s Unsigned competition opens…

Ebony Day, who earlier this year became the first ever unsigned act to win MTV’s Brand New talent search, has called her life since the win “an incredible experience.”

“The past 9 months have been so exciting,” said Ebony, who has played everywhere from London to Nashville since her win. “We’ve been doing gigs, shows, recording the EP, doing the music video; loads of things that are just really exciting. We got to meet loads of fans and have a very good time.”

MTV'S BRAND NEW FOR 2014 UNSIGNED COMPETITION IS NOW OPEN. IF YOU THINK YOU’VE GOT WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN, ENTER HERE!

‘Daylights’, as Ebony calls her fans, are the ones who voted for her in their droves to win MTV Brand New for 2013 presented by Emporio Armani Diamonds back in January and she clearly feels close to them, recently even covering Macklemore & Ryan LewisSame Love because, explained Ebony, “lots of people have been messaging me saying that they are a bit confused or they don’t fit in. I just wanted them to know that I like them however they are [and] if they feel alone then they’ll always have me.”
And while Same Love is probably the first and last time we’re likely to hear the 20-year-old rapping (“I don’t think I will be rapping in the future” she stressed) Ebony got the chance to “experiment with loads of different songs and see what I liked and what I didn’t like” while recording her newly-released EP. But, as always, the thoughtful singer’s primary concern was for her Daylights. “Fingers crossed when [the EP] comes out they really like it,” she said.
