The now Brighton-based twosome, who will be supporting Alex Turner et al again on tour in Finsbury Park this May, told us how their hard-hitting debut track Out Of The Black came about:

“Ben was doing this rhythm - the beginning of it - when we were in a pub having a pint,” Mike recalled, “and then we were sort of going ‘oh wouldn’t it be cool if we did that’ …We had no idea it would be on the radio or anything.”

He continued: “We thought it was just really long and sort of our heaviest song…it didn’t feel like a single but we thought ‘f**k it, let’s just put it out and see what happens’.”

So what influences a band that makes a track like Out Of The Black? “Everything and everyone really!” Ben put it simply.

“That’s such a good answer!” Mike laughed. “But to be more specific we probably rock like…I really like QOTSA and Jimi Hendrix and Led Zepplin and all that kind of thing”

“We’re into chart music as well,” Ben added. “We’re into a lot of pop and R&B and ‘rap’ … [to Mike] you love Katy Perry don’t you?”

“I love Katy Perry,” Mike agreed. “Have you ever seen her live? She’s amazing… and I’m single..!”
