Blossoms To Release Album In 'A Year's Time'...Probably
The Stockport band have had a massive 2015 but their foot is staying firmly on the gas...
Manchester-hailing Blossoms are the next Brand New For 2016 nominees we're shining a spotlight on this week. Describing themselves as a "pop band", these five guys from Stockport are the next in line to fly the flag for British pop-rock and, considering the year they've had, they're as down-to-earth to talk to as their hair is immaculate.
Selling out Village Underground to The Ritz in Manchester, drummer Joe remarked: "it's all been a bit mad , we've been dead busy, we've not really had time to think about it really," while lead vocalist Tom added: "it's great to go from venues like the toilet tours to The Ritz without even having an album out do you know what I mean? We've released like three singles and an EP - that is quite mad."
However the 'Charlemagne' fivesome feel it's deserved. "We put in so much work and stuff," Joe continued. "It just feels like 'yeah' we deserve to be where we are. We wanna be bigger we don't wanna stop at The Ritz. The Ritz was amazing but we wanna be selling out huge venues, we wanna be one of those bands."
Their forthcoming EPAt Most A Kiss, the title track of which is out now, will be released next month but their album "will probably be out in a year's time," they say.
For the LP, the band have teamed up with serial collaborator, producer James Skelly of The Coral again, which is "a relationship that's been built up over like a year and a half," Tom said.
"He just heard one of the demos we'd done. It wasn't like our music was forced upon him and he had to come and produce it, he found us and was like 'I wanna work with ya'…and he's really good as well. He wrote some great, great pop tunes and we see ourselves as a pop band with that classic songwriting and he fits into that with some of the songs he's [written]."
Drummer Joe added: "Rich Turby who does other stuff with us as well… they both bounce off each other and both have great ideas and all of us are bouncing ideas as well it's just like a really good team. It's a bit of luck as well, that we found someone like James Skelly who wanted to work us."
Luck it may be, but we're sure their talents have a little bit to do with it as well.
As for this time next year once the album's released, Tom just hopes: "hopefully we'll have had a great reaction to that and it'll have gone down well and we'll all be really pleased with it."
No doubt about it.
