Video Premiere | Breakage Is Back With 'Future'

We chat to the producer about his third studio album and give you the first play of his brand new music video...

Best known to the masses for his remix of Clare Maguire's 'Ain't Nobody' and his 2011 single 'Fighting Fire' with Jess Mills, UK producer Breakage is back on the scene with brand new music. Rejoice!

His uncompromising sound which skirts the darker realms of dubstep, drum 'n' bass, grime, house and everything in between returned late last year with'Treading Water' and last month with'Revelation' Ft. Liam Bailey and now he's gearing up to release his third album 'When The Night Comes'.

With the much anticipated third LP due in May we caught up with him to talkupping his gamein our exclusive interview belowbut before we get into that, we've got premiere of the video the first single from it!

Check out 'Future' Ft. Madi Lane here...

MTV UK:Thanks for letting us premiere your new vid! Tell us about the idea behind the video for ‘Future’…

Breakage: It's the calm before the storm of a nasty break up, as is the theme of the record, but fragmented between the past, present and future.

MTV UK:Why did you pick this as the first single?

B: We picked it as it shows a different side to previous tracks heard from the album ('Treading Water' & 'Revelation') and also shows the diversity of the album and me as a producer as opposed to what I'm more commonly known for.

MTV UK:We’re so glad to have more Breakage back in our lives! We’re on album No.3 now, how would you say your sound has progressed since 'Foundation'?

B:I think I've matured and focussed more personally and musically since 'Foundation'. I think a lot of the vocal led tracks show that and were pretty much picked or directed from personal experiences while writing it too.

MTV UK:Which artists (if any) or what genre movement have had a major impact on you over the past 12 months and did they have an effect on 'When The Night Comes'?

B:I get inspired by everything I hear really, good or bad, so it's a list too long to actually write down!

MTV UK:What was the biggest challenge you faced making the album?

B:It was a mixture of two that I think are highly important, especially when writing dance or electronic music. The first was actually making a group of tracks that sounded like an album and not just a selection of tracks I had made over a period of time. The second was upping my game with the actual production and really pushing myself on that side of things.

MTV UK:What’s the best thing about dance music at the moment? And Why?

B:The fact that grime is stronger than ever.

MTV UK:…and what’s the worst (and why)?

B:So many tracks sound the same it's sometimes hard to tell the difference.

MTV UK:What’s the most embarrassing song/record in your collection?

B:The Firm - "Star Trekkin" I bought it when I was about five!

MTV UK:What are your guilty pleasures (musically)?

B:Late 90's commercial Ibiza-esque house tracks. I sometimes play a couple in my sets!

MTV UK:What does 2015 have in store for you?

B:Work, work and more work! As I said, I feel really focussed at the moment… so work loads and then hopefully a holiday at the end or start of 2016!

'Future' is out 17th May. 'When The Night Comes' is released 25th May.
