What’s Next For Britney Spears Now Her Vegas Residency Is Over?
Here are some predictions.
The superstar’s Las Vegas Residency is coming to a close. What will follow?
The legendary Miss Britney Spears is ending her Vegas residency.
She will be sending off the show on New Year’s Eve this year.
There are one or two tickets left if you are still planning to go.
However, chances are that you may not have time/funds to book a trip to Vegas.
Fear not though. As one chapter ends, a new one begins.
Here a couple of the things that the princess of pop might get up to now that her schedule is free.
1. Work (bitch) on a world tour.
It’s over five years since Britney Spears wrapped up her last world tour. Five years. Until recently it seemed as though the Femme Fatale tour could have been her last. Britney seemed to be enjoying the stability that her Las Vegas residency provided (a well paid gig, a place for her and her kids to call home, huge demand for it) - there was no clear end in sight. However, in the past year, Britney has been venturing outside of Vegas - she’s performed on awards shows (The MTV VMAs), she’s done festivals (The Apple Music Festival), she’s even announced concert dates abroad (The Philippines etc.).
Whether or not these concert dates will share the same setlist as her Piece of Me residency or expand to include the UK is yet to be confirmed.
However, with the residency ending and these concerts booked, it seems a dead cert that Britney is now ready to head out on the road for us. ‘I love doing my show in one place, plus it’s been great because I can have my boys out with me a lot of the time. But, sometimes I do get that itch to travel and tour again. It’s in my blood.’
2. Hit us one more time.
Last year Britney returned to the music scene with one of her most critically acclaimed albums to date: ‘Glory’. It may not have lit up the charts like her previous works but it was a gift for fans and a reminder that Britney Jean Spears has always had a way with the tune. It’s also the most hands on that Britney has been in an album since ‘In the Zone’ - she worked hard with her amazing A&R Karen Kwak, to collaborate with new and exciting producers and create an album that is both modern/current and worthy of her illustrious career. After years of it seeming uncertain as to whether Britney was still recording music for the love of it, or under contractual obligations, she finally seemed/seems to be enjoying herself and her art again.
Plus all signs point to album ten being in the works - the star all but confirmed it herself. ‘I’m not sure what I want the next album to sound like. I just know that I’m excited to get into the studio again and actually have already been back recording.’ Will we get Blackout 2.0? Will we get another chart mauling Max Martin produced banger? Will she bless us with another timeless ballad? When it comes to Britney - who knows. However, with Vegas now drawing to a close, we think that Britney could give us more very soon.
3. Return to acting.
It’s easy to forget among all the hits and success that Britney Spears once helmed her own film. ‘Crossroads’ received a lot of backlash when it was released back in 2002 - mainly from critics who dismissed Britney before they even saw her act - but it was loved by its target audience, young women. It has also since gone on to gain its own cult following and receive renewed appreciation for its depiction of teenage, female friendship. What’s more - it was Britney’s idea.
Her label gave her money to work on a film and she and her team came up with the basic plot before developing it with Shonda Rhimes. Yes - the Shonda Rhimes of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder fame. ‘It was my little project. When you do a movie, I think you have to be really passionate about it. I was having a lot of offers, but this is something my heart was into.’
Perhaps because of the negative response that the film received, Britney never announced any further plans to act seriously. However, she has since made cameos in the likes of Glee and Jane the Virgin, so the possibility of Crossroads 2: Cross Harder may not be as farfetched as it seems.
4. Release a new fragrance.
Whether she’s being Curious, putting on a Private Show or treating her fans to a Midnight Fantasy, Britney loves a good perfume. Since 2004, the singer has released 21 fragrances and they have managed to gross over $1.5 billion. It may not be on the top of fans’ wishlists right now but we have no doubt that Miss Spears has a few more scents up her sleeves. Make that money girl.
5. Get some well-deserved rest.
As fans, it can be hard to admit that sometimes what are faves need most is rest. Throughout Britney’s career, she has been overworked with little time to dedicate to herself. All the while, the media has hounded her, made fun of her and acted as though her mental health doesn’t exist. Thankfully, public conversation regarding mental health has developed since then. Also Britney seems much better now. Through the stability of her Vegas residency and some actual time off to relax, she’s finally had a chance to recuperate.
Would we like a new album/tour in 2018? Yes. Not at the expense of her mental health though. If Britney’s main contribution to pop culture next year is goofy Instagram posts and holiday snaps, we’ll be just as happy. That album and tour can wait.
