This Week’s Best New Music: Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys, Steve Lacy, Lady Leshurr & More

Also featuring RAT BOY, Bonobo and Future ft. Drake!

Lady Leshurr – ‘Queen's Speech Ep.6’

Taking cues from 'Fast & Furious 6’s' never-ending runway*, Lady Leshurr heads down the longest tunnel on Planet Earth in the sixth of her ‘Queen’s Speech’ freestyles. This ‘Halloween edition’ sees the Birmingham MC dressed as Supergirl as she references pot noodles, winged eyeliner and “wasteman” Donald Trump. Check it.

*Here’s how long that ridiculous, ridiculous runway might have been.

Steve Lacy – ‘Some’

Steve Lacy,The youngest member of The Internet, has released a sultry new track with a killer bass line. The only problem? There isn’t more of it.

Still in school when he co-executive produced and played guitar on the Grammy-nominated 'Ego Death', Lacy could be gearing up to release somesolo music soon. We can’t wait to hear more.

(Side note:Steve Lacy has got an excellent taste in jumpers.)

Future ft. Drake – ‘Used to This’

Future and Drake, best friends and officially ‘guys that are good at their jobs’, released a new track last night. According to Vevo, the song was produced by Zaytoven, Sara Lacombe, Jay Tauzin, StepBfly, and Cassius Jay, and it’s playing for you below. Please allow your eyeballs to drift down this webpage to see the pair wearing football shirts.

And yes, before you try to drag your knuckles across the keyboard and punch it in, someone has already commented: “This is an amazing song. I could get ‘Used to This’”. Sorry.

Sigma ft. Birdy – ‘Find Me’

With a video that has more close-ups of Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) than any other music video released this month, Sigma has brought out a punchy, emotive new track. Birdy – who managed to ship an astonishing 10 million records with her cover of Bon Iver’s ‘Skinny Love’ – is responsible for the vocals. She nails it.

Bruno Mars – ‘Versace on the Floor’

With his new album '24K Magic' dropping on November 18, Bruno Mars has released a second taster following the lavish and actually-really-good title track, ‘24K Magic’. ‘Versace on the Floor’, which sounds like it came straight out of the mid-90s, is probably not what most people were expecting Bruno to do next.

RAT BOY – ‘LOVERS LAW’

RAT BOY is getting more confident all the time. Just like with previous single 'GET OVER IT', RAT BOY - real name Jordan Candy - has made the artwork himself, and continues to move away from Indie Rock towards something a whole lot distinct.

‘LOVERS LAW’ was made during an all-nighter in the studio and features Junior Dan, who has played bass for Gorrilaz.Full of swagger and energy, this is another teaser to tide you over before RAT BOY finally releases that long-awaited debut in 2017.

The Chemical Brothers – ‘C-h-e-m-i-c-a-l’

A fan favourite from The Chemical Brothers’ live show for several years now – usually performed in the dark with minimal lighting - is finally up and ready for you to click the ‘play’ button on.

Want more information? Well, I was emailed a press release earlier this morning containing exactly that: ‘The Chemical brothers will be performing four sold-out UK shows including two nights at the legendary Hammersmith Eventim Apollo in December.’ Now you know.

Bonobo – ‘Kerala’

Want to hear a great new song? Don’t mind watching a video – featuring Gemma Arterton ('St Trinian’s, Quantum of Solace') - that will give you a throbbing headache? Then check out Bonobo’s latest.

There are all sorts of strange things going on – 'what’s up with that flying thing at 3:10?' – but when those gorgeous, wistful vocals kick in midway through, you’ll forgive the video for making your brain feel a bit terrible.

Simon Green – AKA Bonobo – will release his new album 'Migration'on January 13 2017.

Alicia Keys – 'HERE'

Alicia Keys’ new album 'HERE' (her sixth to date) is out now. ‘In Common’, one of the summer’s biggest singles that saw the singer venture into very dance-y, ‘Jamie xx territory’, is on there. But there’s more. In a really excellent cover feature from FACT magazine, Alicia spoke about how one of the album’s key themes is ‘learning to not be afraid to embrace your individuality.’ 2016, despite everything else, has been a genuinely brilliant year for music, and 'HERE' looks set to be just another one of the many highlights.
