We Couldn't Be Less Impressed With This Caitlyn Jenner Halloween Costume
Not. A. Costume.
Caitlyn Jenner’s Vanity Fair cover made history. All it took was one gorgeous picture, one white corset, and one sentence – “Call me Caitlyn”. Oh yeah, and a hell of a lot of bravery.
Jenner’s very public transition from Bruce to Caitlyn changed lives, and the response to the cover was rightfully positive, as countless people learned more about trans and gender issues from such a high-profile celebrity.
However, one fancy dress costume company have decided to use Jenner’s powerful image to create what they think is a ‘humourous’ Halloween costume and are now selling the outfit on their website.
Currently being sold at anytimecostumes.com and wholesalehalloweencostumes.com, the corset also comes with a brunette wig and a sash boasting the infamous words “Call me Caitlyn”.
The costume’s description states that, “You probably won't break any Twitter records when you wear this outfit like Caitlyn did when she first made her account, but you'll be sure to get a few laughs out of your friends and the other guests at the get together”.
Hilarious, right?
Perhaps the most offensive part of the ad is that it’s listed under ‘Men’s Costumes’. Hey, fancy dress companies! This is your daily reminder that transgender isn’t a costume!
Unsurprisingly, the outfit has been met with widespread outrage, and a change.org petition has been set up, with 1500 signatures and counting.
