Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 'Biggest Launch Ever'
Activision hails success of newly released shooter...
Software giant Activision has proclaimed that its newly released Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be the biggest entertainment launch of all time.
The first-person shooter, which went on sale yesterday, had already broken pre-order records at Amazon - and has been greeted with positive reviews by the press.
Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg said in a statement: "From the very beginning, our goal with Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was to deliver a new high watermark for the franchise. And thanks to the hard work and creative brilliance of our team at Treyarch, I think that's exactly what we've done.
"In addition to an amazing and innovative game, we're also proud and humbled to see the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 creating yet another legitimate, pop cultural phenomenon.
"To our millions of fans worldwide, who have driven everything from pre-orders to YouTube views, to midnight lines outside of stores worldwide to new levels, we just want to say, thank you. You are the best fan base in the world, and the unprecedented thrill ride that is Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is all for you."
Bookies have tipped the game to be the biggest seller this Christmas, outselling Halo 4, FIFA 13 and other rivals.
Thousands of fans queued at midnight to get hold of the game as soon as possible - and The Sun reports that sales of more than £1bn are expected from the title overall.
Robert Downey Jr appeared in a TV advert for the game.
