Calum Best has revealed he was pushed to the brink of self destruction when his father, the late footballer George Best, relapsed with alcohol addiction.

The 35-year-old Celebrity Big Brother star will be seen opening his heart and exposing his own demons in a new episode of In Therapy on Five.

Explaining his low point, Calum recalls how in 2002 his father promised him he would quit alcohol for good – only for the CBB star to catch his dad drinking shortly after during a family holiday.

“I knew he had just swigged from this bottle. And it was like ‘f***’. “That moment in the hospital could have been the changing point for everything. But it ended right there. I wanted to give up then totally,” he said.

“From then on it was just back to drinking. And he drank and drank until it ended. I remember leaving that trip so confused and upset and distraught,” he explained.

“I came back and snorted and drank and shagged my way through everything.”

The CBB star reveled the moment led to his own brief path of self destruction.

“There was a time right after I lost my old man from 24 to 27 where I drank every day and I did drugs and slept around and I built a horrible reputation for myself,” he said.

“I would walk down the street staring at the floor because I didn’t want people to say ‘there’s that pr*** Calum Best’.”
