Diplo, Calvin Harris, The Chainsmokers: Who Is The Highest Paid DJ In The World?
Martin Garrix and Steve Aoki catch up with the big names - will one of them take the crown from Calvin Harris?
Since EDM first took over the charts in 2008, DJs have become as in-demand as pop stars, selling out shows worldwide in a matter of seconds.
From dance legends like David Guetta to newcomers such as The Chainsmokers, these are the masterminds behind the biggest hits that soundtrack our lives and now release albums as anticipated as Beyoncé's.
You only need to follow Diplo’s Snapchat to see that he visits more countries in one week than we probably ever will in a lifetime (we’re not jealous at all).
The question is, which DJ is raking in the most money while having the time of their life?
The Chainsmokers had a huge 2016 thanks to their inescapable number one ‘Closer’ with Halsey, while Martin Garrix and Zedd have become major touring forces and released huge pop collabs in the last 12 months. So who’s number one?
For the FIFTH (!) consecutive year, the UK’s very own Calvin Harris is the world’s highest-paid DJ, earning an eye-watering $48.5 million last year.
FORTY EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS. Can you even imagine?!
Tiësto follows him with $39 million, only just pushing The Chainsmokers to third place, who earned $38 million. So close, boys - maybe next year…
Garrix is 21 years old and making $19 million? News like this makes me wish I’d just ditched university and messed around on GarageBand until something stuck…
Once again, sadly no women made the top ten list, proving it’s very much still a boys club at the moment.
Fingers crossed next year we'll see that change!
