Camden Crawl: Hadouken Smash Koko!
Its a big, fat luminous, cap-and-hoodie, indie-grime-rave smash-fest
Hadouken have just kicked the crap out of Koko, raising the bar and energy at this years Camden Crawl.
Following a trademark cool and emotional performance by I Am Kloot, featuring bright pink drumsticks, the much talked about, much raved about (or nu-raved about) indie-grimy outfit Hadouken swaggered on stage and turned up the noise.
They opened their set with Superstar, prompting immediate bouncing and enthusiastic grime pointing (it looks a bit like a telling off but with more attitude). Hi Camden! shouted singer James after the first song, who opted for a black T-shirt and cap instead of his trademark rainbow-coloured attire.
I wanna see a lot of dancing; I want you to bounce.
And bounce is exactly what the glowstick-clutching Koko-heads did, as the band erupted into Bounce.
Fast-forward a load more griminess, bouncing, fast rhyming and big fat beats, and we get to a long-overdue announcement about a single release.
Im proud to announce this next song is gonna be our single, blurted James through a muffle of warm Red Stripe, weve just recorded it, its called Liquid Lies.
Get to know this song; youll hate it in three months time.
So whens it out, James?
Its out in, erm, June I think. I cant remember exactly when; Im rubbish with dates!
Then following the single, and another beefy head-stomper, the Streetfighter grime-ravers brought their set to a close with their now-anthemic monster That Boy That Girl, complete with new lyrics and the volume turned up to one-below deaf-making.
Cue the whole of Koko going wild.
Youre f*cking great! Screamed James as the left the stage. I f*cking love this city
And the city loves you, Hadouken, you grimy heroes.
