Captain America Star Anthony Mackie Calls For Wonder Woman Film

Clearly Captain America’s Anthony Mackie is not worried about competition from rival comics publisher DC, which owns the Batman and Superman franchises.
Despite Mackie’s next Marvel film, Captain America 3, going head to head with the as yet unnamed Batman vs Superman flick next in 2016, the star, who plays superhero The Falcon, has called for a standalone Wonder Woman movie.
“When I first got this role I just cried like a baby because I was like, ‘Wow, next Halloween, I’m gonna open the door and there’s gonna be a little kid dressed as the Falcon,’” he said in an interview with Geek Dad.
“That’s the thing that always gets me. I feel like everybody deserves that. I feel like there should be a Latino superhero. Scarlett Johansson does great representation for all the other girls, but there should be a Wonder Woman movie.”
“I don’t care if they make 20 bucks,” Mackie continued, referring to fears a standalone Wonder Woman film wouldn’t recoup its budget. “If there’s a movie you’re gonna lose money on, make it Wonder Woman. You know what I mean, ’cause little girls deserve that.”
“There’s so many of these little people out here doing awful things for money in the world of being famous. And little girls see that. They should have the opposite spectrum of that to look up to.”
Wonder Woman has not appeared on screen since 1979, when the Wonder Woman television series went off air. In 2011 there was an attempt to reboot the franchise with G.I. Joe Retaliation star Adrianne Palicki but the show didn’t make it beyond a pilot episode.
Israeli actress Gal Gadot, best known for her role as Gisele in the Fast & Furious franchise, is up next to portray the character in Zac Snyder’s 2016 Batman vs Superman, which will also star Henry Cavill as the man of steel and Ben Affleck as Batman.
