Daniel Bruhl is set to play classic Marvel villain Baron Zemo in Captain America: Civil War, it has been revealed.

The Spanish-German actor - who starred opposite Chris Hemsworth (aka Thor) in real-life motor racing drama Rush - was announced as a cast member last year but the details of his role have been kept under wraps until now.

However a casting call posted on MovieCastingCall.org has now revealed that he will either portray Baron Heinrich Zemo - a Nazi scientist who survived World War II - or his son Baron Helmut Zemo.

The latter is a villain associated with the Masters of Evil and the Thunderbolts.

The threequel will adapt the famous "Civil War" storyline penned by comic book legend Mark Millar for the big screen, seeing Cap and Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man clashing over the Superhero Registration Act.

It is due in cinemas next May.
