Marvel Confirms Captain America Will Clash With Man Of Steel Sequel

Old-school comic book superheroes to go head-to-head at the box office in 2016...

It's been strongly rumoured for a while, but now it's official - Captain America will be taking on Batman Vs Superman at the box office.

Marvel Studios has confirmed that Captain America 3 IS the mystery movie set to open on 6 May, 2016 - the date that has been set for Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel sequel to open.

Some industry sources had predicted that Marvel might move its threequel to avoid it being overshadowed by Ben Affleck's debut as the caped crusader, but the studio appears to have doubled down instead after seeing the recent success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

A press release from Marvel read: "Following the record-breaking premiere of Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier this past weekend, the First Avenger will jump into his next big screen solo adventure in just a little more than two years on May 6, 2016!"

And May could be the biggest month ever for superhero movie fans, with X-Men: Apocalypse and The Amazing Spider-Man 3 also scheduled to open that month.
