Karl Lagerfeld Is A Feminist: Cara Rocks Chanel’s ‘Ladies First’ Runway

Chanel’s SS15 Paris Fashion Week show champions womankind…

Cara Delevingne, Kendall Jenner, Joan Smalls and Gisele Bundchen were amongst the models who starred in this morning’s girl power themed SS15 Chanel show at Paris’ Grand Palais. It seems, that despite his previous fat shaming incidents (remember what he said about Adele?), Karl Lagerfeld is a feminist.

Kicking off the show on the specially erected ‘Boulevard Chanel’, models wore boxy trouser suits in the label’s signature tweeds, carrying briefcases and rocking colourful neckties as if they were off for a day at the office.

Dark colours soon made way for a brighter palette of watercolour effect skirt suits, as our businesswomen began to soften, allowing typically girlish pinks and purples into the SS15 Chanel wardrobe.

Political statements crept in slowly but surely: “Make Fashion Not War” cried one khaki box bag, as a utilitarian vibe made up the next part of the show, all button-through army jackets and loose-fitting trews. Then – shock horror – a single male took to the runway in similar attire, a symbol of equality between the sexes, before an explosion of pastel colours, metallic panelling and leg-baring skirts and dresses.

The subtle nods to women’s rights could easily have been missed, especially on spotting Gisele and Kendall on the runway, rocking cute knits and monochrome ruffles respectively. Distracted by metallic leather bomber jackets and ‘Chanel’ encrusted belts, the true story of Karl’s latest dream was soon spelled out, with a protest replacing the traditional final walk on the runway.

Carrying signs reading ‘HISTORY IS HER STORY’, ‘BE DIFFERENT!’, ‘WOMEN’S RIGHTS ARE MORE THAN ALRIGHT!’ and ‘LADIES FIRST’, models brought Monsieur Lagerfeld’s message to the forefront, in typically dynamic style.

Doing their bit for the cause, Kendall and Cara fooled around with signs backstage, Kendall captioning one snap of the pair, “free the nipple #shhh @caradelevingne”.

Cara, funnily enough, posted the same picture with the caption, “#freethenipple #shhhhhh @kendalljenner”. New BFFs or just fighting for their rights? Either way we love it.
