CeeLo Green Returns To Twitter, Apologises For Controversial Posts

Star brands his previous comments about rape "idiotic, untrue and not what I believe"...

CeeLo Green is back on Twitter after previously deleting his account for sending a number of controversial tweets regarding the subject of rape.

Earlier this week, the Forget You singer caused controversy by attempting to explain his recent legal woes - instead enraging fans (and the general public).

Last autumn, CeeLo was charged with a felony when the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office allegedly stating that he “slipped ecstasy to a 33-year-old female while the two were dining” and the victim claimed that she later woke up in her hotel room naked.

[related]He plead no contest to the drug charges, and was subsequently sentenced to three years of probation, in addition to community service, due to a lack of evidence.

And although he escaped time behind bars, there were still lingering concerns about the events that took place that night.

Things got heated on Sunday (August 31) when the Gnarls Barkley star tried to explain his side of the story on Twitter in disparaging terms.

He tweeted a series of messages that were later deleted, but BuzzFeed obtained screen grabs of them. CeeLo eventually deleted his entire account, then restored it without those messages.

“If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously,” he tweeted, adding, “People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!”

He later apologised for his comments, insisting his tweets were "being taken so far out of context" adding: "I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me..."

The former Voice USA coach has since returned to the social-networking site, where he once again said sorry for his actions.

Green wrote: "I truly and deeply apologize for the comments attributed to me on Twitter. Those comments were idiotic, untrue and not what I believe."

He then posted a video of his song Bridges, writing alongside the clip: "This song is my absolute truth! It's all I ever wanted to be as an artist, man, and human being. I wholeheartedly believe I was born with this purpose. I love everyone."
