12 Celebrities Give Their Best Advice About How To Handle Being Cheated On
Because it's happened to them...
Being cheated on is one of the worst feelings in the world. And celebs are definitely not immune to the hurt that you can feel when you find out someone has been unfaithful.
But after going through some horrendous experiences, they have some valuable AF advice to give…
1. Taylor Swift: It’s a conscious decision…
Although Taylor has never said that she has been cheated on, her songs all talk of heartbreak. She admitted: “I can’t deal with someone wanting to take a relationship backward or needing space or cheating on you. It’s a conscious thing; it’s a common-sense thing.”
2. Britney Spears: Go on some first dates
After the singer broke up with ex David Lucado in 2014, she told her Las Vegas show: ‘I know you know my boyfriend cheated on me. The best thing about being cheated on is I get to go on more first dates.”
3. Lillie Lexie Gregg: Everything happens for a reason
After Stephen Bear cheated on Lillie on Celebrity Big Brother with Chloe Khan, she was understandably devastated. She told The Mirror: "How can you do that to someone you care about? If the roles had been reversed, no way in a million years would I have behaved the way he has. I wouldn't want his family to see that. The thing is, if he doesn't want to be with me then that's fine, but why couldn't he have just said that before he went into the house? I saw my future with him. But the Stephen that's on Celebrity Big Brother is unrecognisable to me. The person I knew was amazing. It's so sad for me. I don't know where the person I loved has gone but I believe everything happens for a reason and I was supposed to see this side to him."
4. Zendaya: Follow your gut
During a fan Q&A, Zendaya was asked about how to deal with cheating. She replied: “Not all men are dogs, everybody is different. Follow your gut. If you feel it, it's probably happening. If you feel like you can't trust somebody or you feel whatever, then you shouldn't be in a relationship with them, if you don't trust them completely... When people are young they make bad decisions sometimes, because they don't know any better, because they haven't lived enough life, doesn't mean they don't know the difference between right and wrong, it just means that they're still in the experimental phase in their life where they haven't made the right decisions yet.”
5. Iggy Azalea: You need time to heal
Iggy found out that fiancé Nick Young had cheated in their own house. She said on Twitter: “I broke up with Nick because I found out he had brought other women into our home while I was away and caught them on security footage.” She later told People magazine: “I needed a lot of time ... I mean, you wake up one morning and your fiancé is having a baby with someone else, you're going to need some time, right?”
6. Ed Sheeran: Let yourself be angry
After rumours swirled that Ellie Goulding had cheated on him with Niall Horan he wrote the song Don’t. He told Emtertainment Weekly: "There'd be no anger or pain in that song if it was just very sweet and nice. The whole reason people connected to it was because everyone's been that angry at one point, everyone's hated their partner or spouse like, 'Don't f— with this.' For me, it needed to be done. It didn't necessarily have to go on the album, but it definitely needed to be written.”
7. Rob Pattinson: Be careful when talking about the other person
When Kristen Stewart was spotted cheating on Rob with her married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, the world wanted to know what he thought. He told Esquire: "Sh*t happens, you know? It's just young people, it's normal! And, honestly, who gives a sh*t? The hardest part was talking about it afterwards. Because when you talk about other people, it affects them in ways you can't predict."
8. Camila Cabello: Acknowledging the cheating can help you let it go
Before she left Fifth Harmony, Camilla told Teen Vogue: “The song is about cheating. Two days before we wrote this song, I found out from a friend of mine that the boy that I was 'talking to' was also talking to other girls. The line 'can't seem to let you go / can't seem to hold you close' was about that weird period when you find out you’re being played but haven't said anything to him yet, and it's awkward and distant … A few days after we wrote the song, I told him I couldn't do it anymore."
9. Jennifer Lopez: It’s not you, it's them
Rumours have swirled that a couple of her boyfriends cheated on J-Lo including Drake and Alex Rodriguez but she has never publicly spoken about anyone in patricular. She said: "It's about realizing it's not about you. When someone cheats on you, it's about them … about their shortcomings. It makes it feel like it's about our shortcomings, like there was something wrong with us ... but the truth is, that it's really their ego, and what they need to fill within themselves that drives them to do things like that. Not because you weren't enough."
10. Cheryl: Crumble when you want to
After Ashley Cole’s infamous affair in 2008 Cheryl decided to stay with him. But after more flings emerged in 2013 she left him and it took years for her to publicly talk about the hurt. She told InStyle in 2015: “To be honest, I coped in public and crumbled in private. It’s funny - those who didn't understand my actions at the time have now had that happen to them and they get it. A friend of mine told me her husband was having an affair and she said, ‘I understand everything that must have been going through your head. But what I will never understand is how you had to face the world.’”’
11. Khloe Kardashian: There is no smoke without fire
During the breakdown of their marriage, it turned out that Lamar Odom had been cheating on Khloe for the majority of the time since they'd said ‘I do’. Koko told Howard Stern: “Lamar was so great at making me feel like I was the only one and I'm this princess. I never speculated cheating. He was so good, nothing was on his phone, he had an assistant and they were all on his assistants phone. It was disgusting. These rumours kept coming out in the weeklies and as much as I know they are bullsh*t I was like where there is smoke there is fire.”
12. Marnie Simpson: Cheaters are insecure
On Valentine’s Day of 2016, a video emerged of Lewis Bloor and a random girl in bed together. After Marnie ended it with him he admitted he’d done it because he’d seen her flirting with another guy. She told the Daily Star: “I do understand why he has done what he has done. A lot of people would be insecure if their girlfriend was locked up in the Geordie Shore house with an ex and you didn’t have any contact or know what they were doing. But that doesn’t excuse him. He’s still a cheating t**t. He said he did it to make himself more of a man because he felt mugged off which is just tapped.”
