From Taylor Swift And Tom Hiddleston To Selena Gomez And Zedd: 9 Celebrity Couples Who Were Accused Of Faking Their Relationship

Can you spot a real from a fraud?

Celeb relationships are more important to us than basically anything in our own lives so let’s just say we get pretty invested. From loved-up instas to cute AF engagement announcements, we’re all over it.

But sometimes a couple will get together and for one reason or another, fans will brand them fake and just like in MTV’s brand new show True Love Or True Lies? (Monday 6 August at 9pm) it can be hard to figure out the truth.

Watch Maya Jama explain all about MTV's brand new show here:

We like to believe that all love is real love but these couples were accused of fooling the world...

1. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries

When Kim ended her relationship with the NBA basketball player, just 72 days after they got married, fans accused the pair of faking their love for cash money purposes. The reality star allegedly made $2.4million from the televised wedding on E! and Kris even accused Kim of being the one to blame. But Kimmy denied it and said she had simply felt pressured to get married.

2. Drake and Jennifer Lopez

We were beyond excited when this pair started their love affair in 2017. But when they announced they were going to make music together the world immediately accused them of faking their relationship to promote their new material. We like to believe they were madly in love tbh.

3. Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston

Hiddleswift took over our lives for months in 2016. We were obsessed with watching their every paparazzi-followed move, literally all over the world. But it was out of character for the notoriously private Tom and fans started to band about theories that it was all a big hoax to promote her new album 1989, and they were re-enacting scenes from her most famous videos.

4. Selena Gomez and Zedd

The popstar moved on from Justin Bieber to date music producer Zedd in 2015 and fans shipped it hard. The pair released I Want You To Know and swiftly split, leading social media to assume it had all been for publicity. Have you never heard of a fling, babes?

5. Kaley Cuoco and Henry Cavill

Probs one of the best looking couples to ever grace this earth, Henry and Kaley started dating in 2013 but it wasn’t long before fans started to question the romance. They noticed that the stars were represented by the same PR firm right before Man of Steel came out and people were suspicious. It didn't help that Kaley walked down the aisle to tennis player Ryan Sweeting just three months after they split. Coincidence. Probs tbh.

6. Rita Ora and Rob Kardashian

After Rob accused Rita of cheating on him with multiple dudes, Rita admitted she hadn’t even thought they were in a relationship. Fans branded the whole thing a sham as she'd been seen hanging out with the Kardashian sisters as the pair gushed over each other on social media. Odd.

7. Lauren Conrad and Brody Jenner

They were the couple everyone was rooting for circa 2006 but after The Hills ended the pair admitted it had just been for the cameras. But we still refuse to live in a world where anything about The Hills was fake and we’ll freeze anyone out who dares to tell us otherwise.

8. Selena Gomez and Orlando Bloom

After rumours swirled that Selena’s ex Justin Bieber and Orlando’s ex-wife Miranda Kerr had hooked up, the pair started being pictured together. Even though they never announced they were dating, fans accused them of hooking up for revenge rather than real love.

9. Mariah Carey and Bryan Tanaka

Viewers of Mariah’s World watched this pair flirt their way into a relationship as Mimi’s engagement to billionaire James Packer was coming to an end. But some weren’t feeling the love as the branded the whole thing fake and an attempt to promote the show. But the pair are still well loved-up so joke’s on the haters we guess.
