Justin Bieber may not have exactly been the model son over the past couple of years, with the star taking to Instagram to thank his mum Pattie Mallette to ending his “stupid phase”.

Using Mother’s Day in the US as the perfect excuse to pay tribute to Pattie, the 21-year old posted a close up shot of her on his official page, praisingMallette for putting up with his bad boy behaviour.

JB wrote: “This little 4'9 woman may not look like a mom but she is, and she's the best at it!

“This woman taught me everything I know, how to love how to be compassionate how to be strong when the only thing u wanna be is weak how to stand when all you want to do is fall.”

He concluded: “If it wasn't for this woman lets just say I would have had a way LONGER stupid phase. I love u and thank u for not giving up on me!”

And, it seems the Biebs is set on putting THAT phase behind him, taking to the stage at 'KIIS FM's Wango Tango' in Carson, California over the weekend - with his live stint marking his first performance since December 2013.

Pattie would be proud Justin!
