WTF Ever Happened To The Couples Of Love Island?
Ever wondered what happened to the couples on Love Island? Find out over at MTV.co.uk.
Along with a burnt sausage in the park, some really terrible shoulder sunburn and too many strawberry Cornettos, the return of Love Island is a sure fire sign that summer is officially on the way.
And guess what? The third season of the ITV’s genius dating show is back on our screens very soon, so prepare for your life to start revolving around coupling up, mugging off and teeny tiny swimming shorts all over again.
But before we can truly get stuck in with a whole new Love Island cast for 2017, it only makes sense to rewind and see what ever happened to the couples from past seasons. Does true love really exist in this day and age without a helping hand from Caroline Flack and a swanky villa in the sunshine? Time to find out as we find out who's still loved up and who've called it quits.
2016: Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey
When Cara and Nathan left the villa as winners of Love Island 2016, it looked as though nothing could tear ‘em apart. There was talk of teeny tiny Essex children and a relationship ‘til they were old and grey, but the course of true love never did run smooth.
In fairly heartbreaking news, Cara and Nathan confirmed their shock split just last month, but apparently ended things mutually and have managed to remain pals.
It’s not all bad news though, as Cara’s just confirmed she’s gonna be joining TOWIE as a full time cast member while Nathan seems to just be living his best single life. Hooray.
Olivia Buckland and Alex Bowen
If you’d put a bet on these two going the distance when they first got together in the villa, you’d probably have been kinda crazy – but now, a year on, you’d be SERIOUSLY rich. Despite a slightly rocky start to their relationship, Alex and Olivia are now the ultimate Love Island success story after he liked it so much that he put a ring on it.
The pair announced that they were engaged after a romantic trip to New York for New Years Eve, and are even rocking matching King and Queen of Hearts tattoos these days as well.
Alex and Olivia are pretty much living the dream right now, with a wedding date set for September 2018, endless fancy holidays and a whole load of random Instagram endorsements under their belts. Hooray.
Kady McDermott and Scott Thomas
Since falling for each other on Love Island last year, Kady and Scott’s relationship has pretty much gone from strength to strength by the looks of things. Although they haven’t taken things to the next level quite yet, it looks as though the pair are seriously loved up and it’s rumoured that an engagement could very much be on the cards.
They’re another couple who seem to always be jetting off from exotic beach to exotic beach. In between the endless dream holidays and romantic dates, Kady has launched her own eyelash and makeup range while Scott has started his own social media management company. So there you go.
Katie Salmon and Adam Maxted
It may or may not surprise you to know that, seeing as Katie and Adam basically hated each other on the show and only paired up as a 'convenience couple', their romance was fairly short lived. And by fairly short lived, we mean literally days after the final.
They both summed things up quite nicely in tweets soon afterwards, as Adam wrote: “It’s like when you’re eating a kebab after a night out & the first few bites taste good but then u realise that it really isn’t nice at all", while Katie replied: “It’s like getting socks at Christmas. Practical but no fun.” Awkward.
Newly blonde Katie has been dropping hints all over social media that she might be packing her bikinis soon to get involved with the upcoming new series of Love Island. Meanwhile, Adam has gone back to the pro-wrestling day job and is now INSANELY ripped (and it looks as though he's got a new girlfriend, too).
Emma-Jane Woodhams and Terry Walsh
You might remember Emma and Terry for a) their very controversial get together at the expense of Malin, and b) their mega raunchy sex scenes which everyone in the villa got an eyeful of. Funnily enough, these two things did not a happy relationship make in the long run.
Emma and Terry did actually stay together for almost a year after the show, but he took to Twitter to publicly announce that they’d broken up on good terms.
These days, Terry’s doing public appearance after public appearance in clubs up and down the UK from Nantwich to Blackpool, while Emma’s all about the gym and classic Instagram ads at the moment. All's well that ends well.
Sophie Gradon and Tom Powell
Gahd, just thinking about these two in a relationship gives us a headache. Tom's jealous streak and Sophie's flirty personality didn't exactly work well together, and unsurprisingly the couple called it quits when it all proved too much in the outside world.
In true romantic style there was vicious rumours of cheating from each side, with both Tom and Sophie posting 'proof' pictures on social media of each other doing the dirty. DRAMA.
But in 2017, Sophie's now loved up all over again with a new man and describes herself as an 'influencer, model and presenter. Tom is still wearing extremely tight tshirts and low cut vest tops, and has also recently done a stint as a naked butler for events. Crikey.
Rachel Fenton and Rykard Jenkins
Yep, seriously. After a whirlwind romance involving a beautiful heartfelt poem and a rather lovely but dramatic exit from the show, Rachel and Rykard are still together and it looks as though their relationship is for keeps. CUTE.
While the rest of the Love Island gang have gone on to achieve dizzying heights of social media fame, Rach and Rykard have kept things pretty quiet and private. She’s gone back to her job as a trauma and orthopaedic nurse, while he’s all about the gym and now has biceps bigger than your future. And they lived happily ever after.
