If you follow Katie Hopkins on Twitter (we won't judge you), then you might have been confused by some of her output this morning (Sunday).

It appears that the controversial newspaper columnist has become the victim of hackers, who have taken control of her account and issued a series of bizarre and obscene tweets.

The 40-year-old's profile pic was changed for a rather unflattering image showing multiple chins and her display name was switched to "Jiggly Jaws Katie".

The perpetrators tweeted: "Awell looks a like Katie Hopkins been sneak dissin too much ere."

And then things immediately took a turn for the (very) dirty, with a string of four-letter words and references to sex acts.

There was also a (not very convincing) threat to release a sex tape if a message got 200 retweets.

It got more than 600 RTs, but the hacker simply posted a link to a rude video of a large man pleasuring himself.

Another message telling Twitter users to retweet if they thought she "deserved this" had 2,700 RTs at the time of writing.

It also seems that the hacker may have deleted Hopkins' 35,000 previous tweets, because they are no longer visible.
