Neon Neon is the artist name for the combined musical powers of Los Angeles based producer Boom Bip and Super Furry Animals main man and solo star Gruff Rhys.
Ahead of the duo’s pole-position placed debut album Stainless Style comes new offering I Lust U featuring up-and-coming Welsh starlet Cate Le Bon.
The single is an ice cool, 80’s inspired lovelorn lament between Gruff and Cate underpinned throughout by Boom Bip’s stripped-back and stylish synth-lead production.
Both I Lust U, and parent album Stainless Style, are highly imaginative slices of conceptual power-pop inspired by the incredible life of the world’s first playboy engineer, John DeLorean.
Thanks to a maverick, risk-taking approach to life and business, the ballsy DeLorean rose from humble beginnings to attain a jet-setting lifestyle filled with fast cars, sharp flared suits and glamorous women.
Having borrowed £85 million from the British Government, DeLorean fulfilled his dream of building an automotive empire whose flagship car was the revolutionary DMC-12, better known as ‘The DeLorean’ and immortalized in 80s movie Back To The Future.
However, this seemingly unstoppable success story soon came crashing down.
With company costs spiraling, by 1982 DeLorean was facing financial ruin and the wheels finally came off when he was sensationally exposed as the subject of a huge $24 million cocaine bust by the FBI.
Forged from the same metal used to create classics such as The Human League’s Don’t You Want Me, glacial melancholic ballad I Lust U reimagines the pressures and pitfalls of life inside one of DeLorean’s many high-profile relationships, which included romances with glamorous silver screen sirens Ursula Andres and Raquel Welch.
The duet brilliantly sketches a superficial, frayed affair in which the vain and media spotlight-loving protagonists are “selling our souls for the highest fee” – the poignant lyrics remaining as relevant in today’s celebrity obsessed climate as the Martini-swilling DeLorean era.

This band is awesome. I can't believe someone's made an album about the life of John Delorean! That car from Back to the Future is amazing - i've always wanted one. Can't wait to see them at Fabric on 20th March.
I've heard the album is amazing too... check their track 'I Told Her on Alderaan' on their MySpace. Sweet!
