The killers of Kodjo Yenga- the teenager who spoke to MTV News about knife crime just months before his murder- have been sentenced today.
Two boys aged just 14 and 17 were handed life sentences- a minimum of 15 years- for viciously stabbing Kodjo in the heart in March 2007.
Yenga appeared in an MTV special about youth issues filmed in July 2006 and told us:
“Most young men and girls I know carry knives around for protection… to threaten others.”
Kodjo continued: “I don’t think it’s a good idea to carry knives around.. I wouldn’t because I’m not in that type of situation.”
Three other teenagers were convicted of manslaughter and given 10 year prison sentences for the crime- which took place in Hammersmith, London.
