Duffy has responded to Estelle’s recent comments claiming the Welsh singer doesn’t represent soul music- in an exclusive chat with MTV News.
The Mercy singer told us: “I don’t wanna stand as a definition of soul music and I don’t think I ever will but there is influence of that in my music.”
She continued: “What you have to remember is a lot of kids don’t know about the great 60s and 70s soul music. So all I can do is channel those influences and interpret it in a contemporary way.”
Last month Estelle told us: “You can’t tell me that you can redefine soul music as Duffy and Adele because I didn’t grow up (with it) and I don’t identify with it.”
Duffy was speaking at the Royal Albert Hall before her excellent Teenage Cancer Trust gig in support of Paul Weller.
She revealed: “When Paul asked me to support him I thought it was a great honour and it’s a really great charity.”
The singer's next single from her superb Rockferry album is Warwick Avenue- which comes out next month.
The Who, David Gray and Muse will all play Teenage Cancer Trust shows over the next few days.
