Channing Tatum Wants To 'Change' Superhero Movies With Gambit
The heartthrob has spoken to MTV News about his role as the next mutant hero...
The 34-year-old star - currently in cinemas in 22 Jump Street - opened up about the movie's progress in an interview with one of our US reporters.
"Creatively, we're starting to chug forward. Obviously there's nothing [official]," he said.
"There are only conversations and dreams right now, really".
Channing is set to be the second actor to take on the role of Gambit, after Taylor Kitsch starred as the Marvel Comics' creation in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
"I've been pretty vocal about wanting to be part of Gambit for a long time", Tatum told us.
"It's a weird, pinching-myself moment that we're even having this conversation".
But Tatum has expressed his desire for a solo feature as the character.
"We've talked about it being a standalone, first, and actually trying to change the 'hero, superhero movie'. Because Gambit is not your typical hero. He's a thief. He walks on the gray. I'm hoping we can change it a little bit and then ultimately feather into the other ones."
Channing's role as the untypical hero mutant isn't set in stone yet though, so fans will have to wait and see whether Gambit will appear with the rest of the X-Men cast or in a new solo feature film.
"The machine of the Marvel world is so ginormous that it's literally like climbing a mountain, getting one of these movies made, and all of the pieces that go along with it".
