Lily Allen has jumped to Cher Lloyd's defence on Twitter, after News of the World showbiz editor Dan Wootton made some negative comments about the star on the social-networking site.
Allen defended The X Factor singer after Wootton responded to comments that Cher allegedly made about her former mentor Cheryl Cole, where Lloyd is said to have stated that Chezza "hasn't been in touch" and that "she is more interested in becoming famous in the States."
The journalist took to Twitter to air his views on the story, claiming that the 17-year old "will be begging to be written about in a few months."
Lily was clearly unhappy with Dan's tweets about Cher and hit back at the showbiz journo, stating: "You're a grown man for christ's sake. she is essentially a child. Give the poor thing a break,"
The Fear singer added: "I imagine she gets enough s**t from kids her own age, grown ups need not pile in. So she's going through a phase, give her a break (sic)."
Wootton replied: "She's not a "poor thing", believe me. Do you have an opinion on her? She wants to be treated like an adult. What I'm doing. She's going to need support from the press."
Not one to back down, the Smile hitmaker retaliated: "not really. I think she's a kid, eventually she'll find her feet and learn from her mistakes. I do think it quite strange, that someone your age would be so affected by a teenager. she's really not hurting anyone."
Lloyd then thanked Lily for sticking up for her on the mirco-blogging site, tweeting: "I can't thank u enough! Really appreciate it."
She then responded to Wootton's comments, claiming: "what on earth have I done to light your fire? I never said anything about cheryl, give me a break!!!!"
He then tweeted: "Your attitude of entitlement & arrogance about the press has lit my fire. You're in a very lucky position to even be written about. I also don't believe those quotes about Cheryl were made up."
We have a feeling this Twitter war is far from over! In other Cher Lloyd news, the star is apparently heading back into the studio with Red One to work on material for her debut LP.
The producer, who has worked with the likes of Lady GaGa and Nicole Scherzinger, tweeted: "I CANNOT wait to work with @cherlloyd AGAIN!!! It's A LOTS of FUN and I think we're up to SOMTHING BIG!!! :-) (sic),"
Cher's first album is expected to be released on 22nd August and is rumoured to feature a collaboration with Rihanna...
