Cheryl Cole's ex-hubby, Ashley Cole, was reportedly "close to tears" after seeing snaps of Chezza kissing rumoured beau, Girls Aloud beauty ended last year, is apparently "heartbroken" after realising that the pictures mean he has lost The Flood singer for good.
A source told the newspaper: "Ashley has realised things have moved on - and he is heartbroken. He knows he is the one who screwed up."
The Daily Star also reports that after swapping Christmas presents with Ashley, The X Factor judge was "spurred on" by the sportsman to go public with Hough, after an angry exchange of calls and texts on New Years Eve.
An insider revealed: "As things had got a little better with Ashley recently, she thought there’d be no harm in giving him a gift. But it seems Ashley somehow misread her gesture and thought he might have a chance of winning her back."

Ashely, who is rumoured to be dating I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here star Kayla Collins, is also said to be "missing" Chezza, with the source adding: "Ashley’s really feeling low as he realises what a mess he’s made of it all."
"To make matters worse, Kayla is getting fed up with him pining for Cheryl.”
Meanwhile, the 27-year old Geordie has revealed that "nobody knows" what she went through during her split with Ashley, telling Elle Magazine that she refused therapy to deal with the break-up.
Speaking of the offer to seek help, the Promise This hitmaker recalled: "It crossed my mind but I’m not trusting enough to bare my soul to a stranger. I’m lucky that I’ve got friends and family to turn to.”
“It would be nice to take six months out and go to a mountain top and just meditate, let myself go.”
She continued: "It’s very much a perception. Nobody knows what I went through behind closed doors. Nobody knows what it was like when I was on my own. Of course I held it together in public. Who wouldn’t?”
