There's further proof today that Cheryl Cole is putting her doomed relationship with footballer Ashley well and truly behind her, as reports claim she's dropping the surname for the sake of her career.

Joining the likes of Rihanna, Beyonce and Madonna, the Geordie lass is reportedly set to be known only by her first name.

Chezza will not, however, be returning to Tweedy. According to The Sun, she has no plans to legally remove her married name.

A source told the paper: "She's not removing Cole legally, it's just a career statement.

"She's in a really good place at the moment and wants to take life by the balls. She can't wait to start performing live again and her new stage name has given her comeback an extra bit of spice."
