Cheryl Opens Up About Nervous Breakdown
The X Factor judge says she's glad to be out of her 20s now...
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has opened up about the nervous breakdown that she suffered in 2010.
The 31-year-old X Factor judge told The Mirror that she was pushed past breaking point when she divorced hubby Ashley Cole, got sacked from The X Factor US and contracted malaria in the same year.
And she blames her determination to work herself into the ground for her breakdown.
"It will never happen again. I'm more conscious of the pressures now. I feel like a woman, I've grown up," she told the paper.
"I am not in my 20s, thank god.
"I was burnt out and I wasn't taking notice. I should have listened to the signals just to slow down.
"But I got sick (with malaria) and instead of taking the time off, I was like 'No, No,' I am going back to work.
"Within six to eight weeks, I was back on the X Factor and I didn't even have the right blood back."
Chezza says it was her beloved dogs and her family who helped her back from the brink.
"I just needed time for growth and peace and quiet," she explains.
"Being away gave me the opportunity to enjoy the simple things in life like playing with my dogs Buster and Coco.
“I've 11 nephews and nieces, ranging from two to 22.
"Having them down (from Newcastle) and going crazy in my house and wiping dirty handprints off the glass was just normal stuff.
"It meant getting back to reality and what really matters."
