Adele would be the “perfect choice” to sing the theme song for the upcoming James Bond movie, according to Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell.
With his voice regarded as one of the best in rock, Cornell’s track You Know My Name was the theme song for the 2006 Bond film Casino Royale.
And the American singer – speaking to MTV News in his dressing room at Download Festival – hopes Adele follows in his footsteps.
“Adele would be the perfect choice – I can’t think of a better one,” said the star, who also fronted Audioslave before the band’s split in 2007.
Cornell continued: “She’s phenomenal and it’s nice, in a day and age where so many vocals are fixed by computers, that the biggest album of last year was somebody who sings for real.
“I would hate to see music become more mechanistic and less human, so her success has been great.”
With grunge legends Soundgarden reuniting to play their first UK show for 15 years at Download, Cornell rates the Donington festival as one of the world’s best.
“It’s the audience – Download crowds are f*****g lively and always have energy.
“Being back together is exciting because after we split we somehow morphed into a classic rock band, so people are coming to see us who never got chance the first time."
He added: “Our new album isn’t a nostalgic throwback to old Soundgarden, it’s very much what we’ve always done which is push the boundaries.”
If you missed them at Download, Soundgarden will also be headlining Hard Rock Calling in London on Friday 13th July.
