He's played strapping superhero Thor and playboy racing driver James Hunt on the big screen in recent years, but Chris Hemsworth's latest role is arguably a bit more of a stretch.

The Aussie hunk plays a genius computer hacker called Hathaway in Michael Mann's forthcoming cyber thriller Blackhat.

And in clichéd Hollywood style, the trailer sees him serving 15 years for his own cyber crimes when he gets the chance to negotiate a lower sentence in exchange for helping the authorities foil a threat to the world's financial markets.

But rather than just showing him staring at a computer screen for the next 85 minutes, the movie then appears to veer into action movie territory - with Hemsworth getting the chance to lay the smack down on some bad guys.

Emphasising the global nature of the web and its associated hacking threats, the movie's action hops between Chicago, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and Jakarta.

The movie is set for release in the UK from 20th January 2015.
