11 Of The Best Christmas Movies To Watch On Netflix
Featuring something old, something new and a double dose of Vanessa Hudgens…
’Tis the season to hibernate on your sofa watching Christmas films and, if you have a Netflix subscription (or your friend’s password), you’ve got plenty of options.
From new Netflix Originals (hiya, A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding) to 90s classics (Miracle On 34th Street, anyone?) these are the festive favourites we’re feasting on this holiday season.
The Princess Switch

Do you like Vanessa Hudgens, The Parent Trap and The Great British Bake Off? Then you’ll love The Princess Switch, which features Vanessa Hudgens playing a baker AND an identical stranger, who just happens to be in line to marry a prince. Cue a lil switcheroo and, well, we won’t spoil it for you – but you can probably work out the rest.
The Holiday Calendar

Another new Netflix Original for 2018, this one stars Kat Graham, Quincy (swoon) and Ethan Peck, that guy from Passport To Paris who isn’t actually French IRL. Oh, and a magical advent calendar. What could be more festive?
A Christmas Prince
If you didn’t get on board with the viral sensation last Christmas, now is the time! Amber is a ‘journalist’ (we use the term loosely) who goes undercover as a tutor to find out about some goings on at the palace of Aldovia. But, of course, she falls in love with her royal subject – the Christmas Prince. Watch it if only for her bonkers note-taking, the ridiculous plot holes and…

The Christmas Chronicles

More blockbuster-y than it’s Hallmark-esque counterparts, The Christmas Chronicles is a real family affair – in more ways than one. Starring Kurt Russell as Santa, long-time love Goldie Hawn as Mrs. Claus and Goldie’s son Oliver Hudson as a firefighter who sadly passes away, the movie revolves around said firefighter’s kids, who are struggling with their father’s death. Until they meet Santa, that is…
Miracle On 34th Street
And now on to the classics. Whether you’ve seen the 1994 remake of Miracle On 34th Street or not, it’s always worth a watch, not least for Mara Wilson (aka Matilda) as precocious Susan Walker. Her transformation from non-believer to Santa’s biggest supporter will make you shed a tear (or cry a river).
The Holiday
With an an all-star cast featuring Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Jack Black, there’s plenty of romcom fun as our two female leads house swap over the holidays, sending one to snowy Surrey and the other to sunny LA. Worth watching for Cameron Diaz’s karaoke rendition of Mr. Brightside alone. And Mr. Napkin Head.
Love Actually
If you love a love story then Love Actually is probably already your favourite Christmas movie. But which of the intertwining love stories do you like best? Or are you just in it for Hugh Grant's dancing?
Deck The Halls
Two grown men fighting over Christmas lights? Sounds like something that would happen in our neighbourhood, as well as in this 2006 movie, starring Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick as said men. Look out for the MTV cameo!
Jack Frost
We’re crying just thinking about this one, but Charlie’s rockstar dad dies and comes back as a snowman, which might seem like a lot of fun… except snowmen melt. And so do hearts. We promise there’s a happy ending, but stock up on tissues until you get there.
A Very Murray Christmas

If you’re in the mood for some musical stylings, not to mention a lot of Bill Murray, then don’t overlook this Netflix Original from a few years back. Featuring everyone from Maya Rudolph to Miley Cyrus, it tells the tale of a New York snow storm that almost wipes out Bill Murray’s Christmas special… but a little dreamy magic saves the day.
