7 Classic Christmas Movies Worth Revisiting This Holiday Season
Feeling the chill? The temperatures are low and the nights are longer, meaning it's officially Christmas movie with a cuppa season.
There may be a new Vanessa Hudgens-lead Christmas movie about a princess on Netflix and, yes, there is a new Pharrell-narrated animated version of The Grinch, however you just cannot beat the festive classics.
We might have watched Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz life swap 200 times by now but every year when the weather gets frosty we immediately want to see it again, and somehow it's always just as good. It's a bit like listening to 'thank u, next' on repeat without a single break for days on end since it was released because it just sounds'so'good when it goes back to the start. You know?
Anywho, Ariana Grande aside, let's take a look at the Christmas classics worth revisiting this winter...
Home Alone
Come on, we couldn't not start with this one. Home Alone (the first one and the first one only, this is not up for debate) easily has one of the most far-fetched, ridiculous stories in all of film history, yet watching a literal child set his house up as one giant danger trap to torture two adult men always works like a charm. It's genuinely hilarious, endlessly quotable, has the best Christmas jumpers'ever'and has a whole scene for the song 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree'. Iconic doesn't even begin to cover it.
Christmas With the Kranks
For some reason, this film never makes it onto these lists and we're about to change that. Jamie Lee Curtis in a Christmas movie about two parents planning to flee their town in favour of a Caribbean cruise before it's cancelled when their daughter is coming home for the holidays? Mid-life crisis spray tans and rooftop falls make for guaranteed laughs every time, while the elderly couple on the streetwill just warm your heart. Give this classic some respect!
Elf
Buddy The Elf, what's your favourite colour? Elf is a classic for so many reasons and they all root back to the sheer stupidity of it all, which is simply wonderful. Will Ferrell is perhaps the lankiest elf in the world (that we've seen, at least) and by far the most endearing, as he tries to navigate life in the big city for the first time.
LoveActually
Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Rowan Atkinson,'Martine McCutcheon (!!!)'; need we say more? Love Actually just gets it all right. It'll have you in your feels with its various romantic stories that all wrap up into one lush Christmas tale, while Hugh Grant dancing around as Prime Minister will have you in stitches. Plus, who can forget the iconic cards scene? Not us! If you somehow haven't seen this one already then get it on ASAP.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Jim Carrey as The Grinch is one of the best casting decisions of all time. He was quite frankly robbed of the Oscars he deserved for his role in this hilarious live-action version of the Dr. Seuss story. Almost twenty years on, Whoville is still the place we want to go the most and we have a greater appreciation for Cindy Lou Who knowing that she is indeedTaylor Momsen. Life's funny, right? This movie is funnier, though. An absolute belter.
The Holiday
Ah, yes, two single women bored of their towns who meet on the Internet and decide to swap lives for a few weeks one winter. A classic tale! Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz do exactly that in this lovely festive film about change, romance and love, with Jude Law serving up major eye candy and Jack Black being the best, as always, too. Cameron's English countryside wardrobe remains our winter wardrobe goals, and we will achieve it one day.
The Santa Clause
One of the boldest plots of all time is making a Christmas movie called The Santa Clause where Santa is murdered. Sounds dark, eh? That's what happens in this hilarious classic, as Tim Allen accidentally kills the big man and has to save the season by becoming Santa himself. Good thing he suits red!
