Disney’s Closing Down Club Penguin And We Are All Devastated

Nooooooooooooo!

Disney is closing down Club Penguin - well, the version as we know it, anyway - from March 29, 2017.

The massively-multiplayer online game (MMO) is one of the biggest online games around, with over 200 million of us signed up to hang out with our perfect penguin pals.

“As you know, we’ve been hard at work developing an entirely new Club Penguin experience for mobile,” explains the Club Penguin team on a recent blog. “With this next chapter, we will be launching an amazing new product, Club Penguin Island, that offers a uniquely penguin experience, with new features and gameplay, making it more fun than ever.

“As part of the launch [...] we will be transitioning to an entirely new platform, and, we’ve made the decision to discontinue the current Club Penguin game on desktop and mobile devices on March 29, 2017.”

It’s okay - you don’t have grab your tissues just yet. Further to the closure, Disney has confirmed it’s bringing a new penguin-shaped experience - Club Penguin Island - to mobiles in March.

It’s super sad times, but if you’re up for a bittersweet celebration, Club Penguin will shortly be celebrating its 11th birthday, so waddle along and join in!

For more details on what you can do with your current Club Penguin subscription visit here, and if you’re interested in checking out Club Penguin Island when it launches, you can pre-register here. Hurry, though - you only have until February 16 to sign-up!
