Colton Haynes Says His Dad Committed Suicide After He Found Out His Son Was Gay

Colton Haynes says coming out publicly in May has made him 'happier than ever', but the lead up to that moment definitely hasn't been easy.

The 28-year-old revealed in the September cover interview with Out Magazine that he was told the reason why his dad committed suicide was because he found out he was gay.

Colton, who came out to his family and classmates at 14 years old, revealed: 'I'm the last person in the world who would say, 'Oh, my dad—pity me''. But I was told that my dad killed himself because he found out I was gay."

"So, of course, I lost it and was like, ''How could you say something like that?' And no one will ever really know the truth."

The former Teen Wolf star added: 'But my brother and my mom went to pick up my dad's stuff, and the only picture on his fridge was my eighth-grade graduation picture. So I was just like, F***"

Colton came out publicly in May in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, after knowing he was gay from first grade. He decided to hide it because he thought it would negatively affect his acting career:

"I feel really bad that I had to lie for so long, But I was told that was the only way I was going to be successful. When you're young in this industry, people take advantage of you, and they literally tell you that your dreams are going to come true".

But the Scream Queens actor has come out the other side stronger, concluding: "I want to somehow have a happy ending - or a happy beginning."
