Former Coronation Street star Sophiya Haque has died at the age of 41.
The actress - who played barmaid Poppy Morales in the soap - passed away in her sleep at a London hospital yesterday (17 January), shortly after being diagnosed with cancer.
According to the Evening Standard, Haque had been undergoing tests but reportedly developed a clot on her lungs.
A Coronation Street spokesperson told Digital Spy: "We are saddened to hear the terrible news of Sophiya's death. She was a vibrant and beautiful actress who was a pleasure to have around during her time on Coronation Street. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this very sad time."
During her career, Sophiya spent seven years as a presenter on MTV Asia, and starred in a number of Bollywood films as well as West End productions.
She had been on stage in Privates On Parade prior to falling ill.
Sophiya's agent Stuart Piper told The Stage: "Sophiya was one of the most inspirational people I ever met.
"She was the kind of person you always want to spend time with - full of light, warmth, compassion, care and with an infectiously wicked sense of humour, and my co-agent Olivier Thomson and I loved every minute of working with her."
