Craig David's Mum Up For A Brit
Gong will end up on her mantelpiece if he wins, he tells MTV.co.uk
Craig David says winning a Brit is more important to his mum than to him.
In an exclusive interview with MTV.co.uk Craig spoke about his fellow nominees in the urban category and why he thinks he should be the man walking home with the gong at the end of the night.
"I think I've given a lot to music through my music...to British music," he said. "That's not consciously 'well that's why I should win a Brit', but I think if you can pave the way and open doors by virtue of making music that people enjoy, then it's great when you get nominated, that's my recognition. Picking up the award is almost better for my mum because she gets the award on her mantelpiece " so it's more for her."
Craig is nominated for Best Urban Act at this year's Brits, alongside Lemar, Kano, Dizzee Rascal and Ms Dynamite. "I like Kano," he added. "I've always been a big supporter of him because I think he's got a wicked vibe."
So was he surprised not to be nominated in more categories? "To be honest I really didn't think I was going to be nominated for any Brit Awards," he confessed. "The album's quite new, it's quite fresh, I was away for quite a long time and there have been so many other things going on. So to actually be nominated was great for me."
The Brit Awards 2006 take place at the Earl's Court Arena in London on February 15.
