The former kids' TV presenter lost out in the skate-off against Samia Ghadie- with just one of the four judges voting to keep him in the contest.

But the 56-year-old - who has survived several previous skate-offs - took the news of his departure well.

"I've waited a whole year to be on this show and it has not let me down," he said.

And he paid tribute to skating partner Olga Sharutenko, saying: "Olga has been such a treat."

But although Robin Cousins, Ashley Roberts and Karen Barber all voted to save Samia instead of him, head judge Robin did take time during the show to praise Cheggers' commitment.

"I just love how you commit to every single ounce of being that you have with every single performance that you give. The performance itself was terrific."

Former EastEnders star Matt Lapinskas gained the highest score of the evening - and of the series so far.
