D'Angelo Live Review
London's Brixton Academy - 3/02/2012
It was the comeback that music lovers, including Beverley Knight and Paloma Faith had waited over 12 years for and as 3rd February 2012 approached, there was only one name on everyone’s lips. D'Angelo.
There had been much scepticism about his return, with fans questioning whether he still had that 'x factor’ he had once possessed and the ladies desperate to see how he looked.
In association with Bluey Robinson - it was when D’Angelo’s band came on stage that this show really began. While the temperature decreased outside, it was smoking hot inside Brixton Academy, as the combination of legendary bass guitarist The Who) lead guitarist James Brown.
There was no question that he ‘still had it’, although some failed to understand that D’Angelo had evolved personally, professionally and musically. He is a little heavier physically, a little rockier musically but one thing is for sure he is back with a vengeance.
