David Beckham Files Lawsuit
Becks plans further legal action as more allegations are made...
David Beckham has launched legal action against gossip magazine In Touch on the grounds it published a report it knew to be false.
The magazine printed claims by prostitute Irma Nici that she had slept with the footballer at New York's Le Parker Meridien hotel in 2007.
The star’s legal team filed the suit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday. It accuses the magazine of libel, slander and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Beckham spokesman Jeff Raymond confirmed a similar suit would be filed in Germany, where the magazine’s parent company is located.
Call girl Nici has since gone into hiding, but The Sun reports Beckham’s lawyers are keen to serve her with a £5 million claim for damages.
"David is prepared to scour the earth for this woman, who seems to think she could make up a complete fantasy that is extremely hurtful to him and his family,” a friend told the newspaper. "She has treated his wife and children with such disregard he is not prepared to let this one go."
Becks’ lawyers are also preparing to fight a claim from a second prostitute who said she joined the footballer and Nici for a threesome.
