David Beckham Unveils Miami MLS Franchise Ownership
Becks reveals at a press conference in Florida that he 'wants to make his own team'...
David Beckham has confirmed that he is now the proud owner of a Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise based in Miami.
After previously teasing the news, Becks announced at a press conference in Florida today (February 5): "I wanted to create a team that we can start from scratch.
"I know there was a team 10 years ago who folded. I wanted to create a team that can be very personal."
He added: "I want to make it my own team. We are very excited, Miami is a vibrant city with a lot of passion. I know this city is ready for soccer. I know this is going to be successful.
"I am looking forward to spending a lot more time and my family being here."
The 38-year old continued: "We will fund the stadium ourselves, we don't want public funding. We can fund the stadium ourselves.
"We want to create a stadium, a soccer club that is the people's soccer club. I have worked with some of the biggest clubs and greatest players and this is a dream.
"I have lived the dream. This is what soccer can do for you."
Beckham added: "There are a lot of things to do, nothing successful is easy in life. There will be more fun times than difficult times. We are going to have a lot of interesting people that want to invest in this club. When you have the right investors, with passion for the game, that is the place to start.
"We are making a soccer club that is going to be loved by millions of people. We plan on this being a global team."
It is thought that David is in talks to build a 25,000-capacity stadium on leased county-owned land in Miami.
