David Cook Wins American Idol
A new idol is born, David Cook, 25 from Missouri, has been crowned by the hit American TV show in a surprise result.
The final took place in a theatre in Los Angeles and shocked many fans due to the fact that judges Randy, Paula and Simon Cowell predicted that 17 year old David Archuleta would take the title.
There were an amazing 97 million votes registered! At the end of an immense two hour live broadcast Cook won by a fairly comfortable 56%, approximately 12 million votes.
Although Cook is older than his closest rival, his musical choices were more up to date than Archuletas which may have swung the vote, backstage he seemed grounded with the win "I actually walked into this with no expectations, and I'm walking out of it with no expectations."
He also seemed to take advantage with his guitar skills, performing both acoustic and electric tracks throughout the contest.
David covered versions of hits by Michael Jackson, The Who, Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi amongst others to seal the deal.
There were a number of performances through out the show from US hit artists including George Michael, Carrie Underwood, Jonas Brothers and One Republic...
