X-Men Deadpool Spin-Off Movie Gets Release Date
But star still to be confirmed for 20th Century Fox and Marvel project...
The industry rumours of a standalone movie for Marvel Comics character Deadpool have finally solidified with a release date.
And the sword-wielding mercenary will be gracing the big-screen sooner rather than later, since 20th Century Fox has picked February 2016.
There is no acting talent yet signed to the project, but Ryan Reynolds played the character in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine and is said to be attached to star in the new movie.
The decision to green light the film follows a leak of test footage - which got rave reviews from fans.
The Hollywood Reporter quoted Reynolds on the subject: "The movie has been in a state of limbo for a while.
"There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, 'Oh, so we weren't crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.'
"It's interesting to see the power of the internet. It's awe-inspiring, actually."
Director Tim Miller will work with top producers Lauren Shuler Donner and Kevin Feige on the film.
