A Diplo TV Show Starring James Van Der Beek Is Coming
The new show is being described as "Louie meets WorldStar HipHop crossed with This Is Spinal Tap"
James Van Der Beek will star in a brand new comedy series all about MTV favourite, Diplo.
With the working title What Would Diplo Do?, the new show will be executive produced by the Grammy-winning musician/DJ, and will revolve around his life. Check out a trailer for the new show further down this page.
In WWDD, described as “Louie meets WorldStar HipHop crossed with This Is Spinal Tap”, Van Der Beek plays a fictional version of DJ superstar Diplo in a “collection of parables about life as told through the eyes of guy who can bring 60,000 people to their feet… but kind of sucks one-on-one.”
“The show doesn’t take itself too serious but it’s not cynical,” Van Der Beek told Deadline.
This will be the first scripted series to be released by Viceland, the TV channel from Vice. The series is slated to premiere later this year, with an initial six episode-run. Van Der Beek, who rose to fame for his portrayal of Dawson Leery in Dawson’s Creek, will also be writing and producing the new series.
Early last year, Diplo played a gig in Cuba. Why was this significant? They were the first major U.S. act to play in the nation in over half a century. Read up on that monumental performance here.
