Disciples On Working With Calvin Harris: “It’s Insane”
With seven UK Number One singles to his name, Calvin Harris clearly knows a thing or two about making hits. (He knows a lot about it. It’s his job.) So if you’re a lesser-known trio of producers and DJs with an interest in emulating that success – and your name is ‘Disciples’ – you’regoing to pounce at the opportunity to make a single with Calvin.
Released last summer, Calvin Harris & Disciples’ ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ – peaking at Number Two on the UK Singles Chart - has now been streamed on Spotify almost 450 million times. It’s been played on YouTube over 800 million times. The music video, directed by regular Harris collaborator Emil Nava andstarring Gigi Hadid, won a VMA earlier this year for Best Electronic Video.
Word on the street is that ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ did “quite well” and might have even made "a quid or two”.
MTV spoke to Nathan Vincent Duvall, Gavin Kool, and Luke Mac– AKA Disciples - about the track, and why working with Calvin Harris “is insane.”
“He’s a fountain of knowledge,” the London-based trio tells us. “He treated us like equals even though we’re not.”
“Obviously he’s so knowledgeable about crafting a worldwide, accessible song. We definitely learnt a lot from the process of finishing that track with him.”
Turning to each other, the trio asks: “Do you think he learnt anything from us?”
There’s a pause.
'Another pause.'
“…No.”
